    ORION - 2005

    (Pre grad day celebration)

Perhaps nothing is much more eagerly awaited in JIPMER than the pre graduation day, and the show on 3rd February, 2005 was one that shall be remembered for years to come. The show started with the baby juniors putting up two dances and a skit. The staff programme followed. Miss Rosemary, the compere, gave an introduction to Orion. Mr. Harinarayan Trivedi mesmerized the crowd with his songs. Dr. Santosh Kumar, Head of Department, Urology with his departmental team, rocked the crowd with their dance, aptly called ‘Mixer and Grinder’. This was followed by Dr. Steven’s solo acoustic- ‘Power of love’ and Dr. Sudha Rao’s melodious song.

What really got the spectators moving was Dr. Pankaj Kundra’s ‘Sholay-2005’. Dr. Dinker Pai was brilliant as Gabbar Singh and Dr. Karoon Agarwal as Veeru earned tons of accolades. Mrs. Kundra, Dr. A. Thumbanathan, Dr. Aparna Agarwal added colors to the show. This was followed by Mrs. Shashindran on the Keyboard.

The cynosure of the night, taking the programme to its pinnacle was Dr. Vikram Kate’s ‘Razz-ma-tazz!!’. It was a medley of medleys and not just a medley of songs but also a medley of the participants with MBBS students, graduates, PG students and professors all together in the same dance. It set a new trend as usual starting off with the ‘Torch Dance’ by the undergraduates. Dr. Ananthakrishnan and Dr. Srinivasan in their grand attire danced to the Shahrukh’s medley and Dr. Aparna Agarwal and Dr. Pranahita to ‘Meenakshi’. Dr. Kate with Dr. Dorairajan, Dr. Vishnu Bhatt and Dr. Shanti Ananthakrishnan then set the stage ablaze with their ‘Dil Maange More’ medley and next was the ‘Dhoom’ in which Dr. Basu accompanied Dr. Kate. It ended with the graduates joining the professors on stage for the final ‘Hum Tum’.

This was followed by dances by the batches of 2003, 2002 and B.Sc. MLT all of which kept the crowed on their feet. Then the graduates took over the stage and Vamsi Krishna, the mike. They started off with their dances (solo as well as group) and almost everyone in the batch got a chance! Last but definitely not the least was music… the Rock band was up on the stage and true to its name rocked the audience with a whole 20 songs!!

Thus, ORION-2005 was a real success and for more we can only wait for the next year…
