WORKSHOP ON HUMAN RELATIONS IN HEALTH CARE

The workshop on "HUMAN RELATIONS IN HEALTH CARE" was conducted at JIPMER from 21.7.2003 to 30.7.2003. Thirty four participants from Govt. General Hospital and Maternity Hospital, Pondicherry, Govt. General Hospital, Karaikal, Mahe, Government Head Quarters Hospital, Cuddalore, Villupuram and JIPMER Hospital, Pondicherry participated. They were at the capacities of Nursing Sisters and Staff Nurses.

The Inaugural function was on 21.7.2003 at 10 A.M. Mrs. G. David, Chief Nursing Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. Mohan Rao, Additional Medical Supdt., presided over the function. He pointed out that Nurses are working as a team. So maintaining the human relationship between the patients, attenders, Doctors, Paramedical Staff and with Group ‘D’ employees is mandatory. Attending such workshops help a lot in achieving the same, he said. Dr. R. Sambasiva Rao, Director, JIPMER delivered the inaugural address. He pointed out that nurses have to be patient, tactful, courteous and kind to the patients and other team members. He said: "Updating one’s knowledge is mandatory to deliver the quality care to these patients. At no cost should the sophisticated equipments replace the human touch and tender loving care to patients. Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing, never had any of the sophisticated devices available today. Still she was very kind, showed empathy and delivered dedicated service to the patients. There may be some constraints like under staffing, more number of patients, more work load etc. But we should know how to tackle and behave professionally to patients". Mr. R.S. Ramesh, Nursing Tutor, proposed the vote of thanks.

Pre & post test were conducted to assess the knowledge gained. The workshop was beneficial to all the participants.

The valedictory function was held on 30.7.2003. Dr. Mohan Rao Addl. Medical Supdt. presided over the function. Dr. Badrinath, Medical Supdt. delivered the valedictory address. He pointed out that updating one’s knowledge with regards to human relations in health care is mandatory in order to achieve the standard of quality care to the patients. Certificates were distributed to the participants by Dr. Badrinath.
