WORKSHOP ON HUMAN RELATIONS IN HEALTH CARE The workshop on "HUMAN RELATIONS IN HEALTH CARE" was conducted at JIPMER from 21.7.2003 to 30.7.2003. Thirty four participants from Govt. General Hospital and Maternity Hospital, Pondicherry, Govt. General Hospital, Karaikal, Mahe, Government Head Quarters Hospital, Cuddalore, Villupuram and JIPMER Hospital, Pondicherry participated. They were at the capacities of Nursing Sisters and Staff Nurses. The Inaugural function was on 21.7.2003 at 10 A.M. Mrs. G. David, Chief Nursing Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. Mohan Rao, Additional Medical Supdt., presided over the function. He pointed out that Nurses are working as a team. So maintaining the human relationship between the patients, attenders, Doctors, Paramedical Staff and with Group ‘D’ employees is mandatory. Attending such workshops help a lot in achieving the same, he said. Dr. R. Sambasiva Rao, Director, JIPMER delivered the inaugural address. He pointed out that nurses have to be patient, tactful, courteous and kind to the patients and other team members. He said: "Updating one’s knowledge is mandatory to deliver the quality care to these patients. At no cost should the sophisticated equipments replace the human touch and tender loving care to patients. Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing, never had any of the sophisticated devices available today. Still she was very kind, showed empathy and delivered dedicated service to the patients. There may be some constraints like under staffing, more number of patients, more work load etc. But we should know how to tackle and behave professionally to patients". Mr. R.S. Ramesh, Nursing Tutor, proposed the vote of thanks. Pre & post test were conducted to assess the knowledge gained. The workshop was beneficial to all the participants. The valedictory function was held on 30.7.2003. Dr. Mohan Rao Addl. Medical Supdt. presided over the function. Dr. Badrinath, Medical Supdt. delivered the valedictory address. He pointed out that updating one’s knowledge with regards to human relations in health care is mandatory in order to achieve the standard of quality care to the patients. Certificates were distributed to the participants by Dr. Badrinath. 1. A guest lecture was held under the auspices of JIPMER Scientific Society and the Department of Pathology, JIPMER, Pondicherry at 3.15 PM on Monday the 21 st July in Pasteur Theater. The Guest Speaker, Dr. Anil Prasad, Assistant Professor of Pathology, University of Arizona Health Centre, USA delivered a lecture on "Micro-satellite instability in colorectal cancer".2. The Monthly Meeting of the JIPMER Scientific Society was held on 31 st July 2003, Thursday at 3.15 PM in Pasteur Theatre.The following papers were presented: 1. Unusual presentations of cutaneous viral infections. Laxmisha C, Thappa DM, Jaisankar TJ. 2. A brief review of yoga studies conducted at JIPMER during 2001-2003. Kaviraja Udupa, Madanmohan, Vijaylakshmi P, Bhavanai AB, Prakash ES. This was followed by the General Body meeting and the election of the new executive. The Secretary, JSS, presented the Annual report and the Treasurer presented the annual audited accounts in the GBM. This was followed by the election of the new executive. The new Executive of the JSS for the year 2003-2004 is as follows: The following were elected as executive committee members: l Dr. D.M.Thappa, Professor of Dermatology Ex officio : Dr. Madanmohan Director-Professor and Head of Physiology Dr. Vikram Kate, Professor of Surgery Dr. Vikram Kate, Professor of Surgery, was awarded the Fellowship of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS-Glasg.) without examination. The Council Executive of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow formally and officially completed the admission to the College on 16 th July 2003 at the University of Glasgow, UK.1. The entrance examination for MBBS course was conducted in 6 centres all over India on the 8 th of June, 2003. A total of 12,899 candidates appeared. 56 MBBS candidates who were selected have joined. The Government of India nominees will be joining later.2. The entrance examinations for admission to B.Sc. (MLT), M.Sc. (Medical Biochemistry), M.Ch. Urology & CTVS, DM (Cardiology) courses were conducted on 13 th & 14th July, 2003. The following are the details of admissions for the various courses.
Thus the admission formalities to all the courses were processed before the stipulated date of 31 st July, 2003 by MCI.Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
