ADMISSION NOTICE - 2003

Applications are invited from Indian Nationals in the prescribed form supplied by this Institute for admission to the following 3 years Courses/Programme.

1. B.Sc.(Medical Laboratory Technology)

2. M.Sc.(Medical Biochemistry)

3. M.Ch.(Urology)

4. M.Ch.(Cardio-thoracic & Vascular Surgery)

5. D.M. (Cardiology)

6. Ph.D.(Anatomy,Physiology,Biochemistry,Pathology,  Microbiology, Pharmacology)

THE DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR EACH COURSE ARE GIVEN BELOW:

1. B.SC. (MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY):

1.1 TOTAL NO. OF SEATS - 20 (Open general - 9, Scheduled Caste - 3, Scheduled Tribe - 2, Candidates sponsored by Central/State Govt. Institutions - 4, Foreign Nationals-2 (sponsored by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi for which application to be submitted directly to the Ministry)

1.2 QUALIFICATIONS:

1.2.1 Should have passed Higher Secondary Certificate Examination under 10+2 pattern with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany and Zoology) and English as subjects of study or Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational Stream with Medical Laboratory Assistant or equivalent examination subject to recognition by the Pondicherry University.

1.2.2 Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing for the qualifying examination in April 2003 and whose results have not yet been declared can also apply for admission if they are otherwise eligible.

1.2.3 The applicants should have obtained not less than 50% of total marks in Science subjects and English taken together and also not less than 50% of marks in aggregate in Science subjects only. The minimum percentage of marks in the respective subjects will apply to Vocational Stream students also. For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, the minimum marks will be 40%. The Educational qualification and pattern of percentage of marks will also be applicable to the sponsored candidates.

2. M.Sc.(MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY)

2.1 TOTAL No. OF SEATS- 6 (Open General - 5, Scheduled Caste 1)

2.2 QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have completed the B.Sc. Degree (with minimum prescribed period of training for the course) with Biochemistry as major subject or B.Sc. (Medical Laboratory Technology) course or B.Sc. (Chemistry) as major subject with a biological science as an ancillary subject from any University recognized by Pondicherry University.

3. M.Ch. / D.M. / Ph.D.

*Normally the duration of the full-time Ph.D. programme is 3 years from the date of registration. But it will be 2 years in the case of M.D. / M.S., M.Sc. (Medical Faculty) and M.Phil. or other similar degree holders in the concerned discipline. The Institute will provide stipend of Rs.2,500/- p.m. in the first and second year and Rs.2,800/- p.m. in the third year of Ph.D Programme. (Stipend is subject to revision)

N.B.: Applicants for M.Ch. courses can apply for only one course i.e. either for Urology or for CTVS and they cannot apply for both the courses.

The admission for B.Sc. (MLT) and M.Sc. (Medical Biochemistry) courses is based on an Entrance Examination only which will be held at this Institute (Pondicherry) on 13.07.2003 (Sunday) from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., and for M.Ch./D.M.(Cardiology)/Ph.D. Programme is based on Entrance Examination to be held at Pondicherry on 14.07.2003 (Monday) from 10.00 AM to 11.30 AM followed by personal interview / viva-voce examination.

Requests for supply of prospectus and application form by post should reach the Registrar, JIPMER, Pondicherry-605006 on or before 06.05.2003 (Tuesday) along with a Crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of Accounts Officer, JIPMER, Pondicherry-605006, in any nationalized bank payable at Pondicherry for the value mentioned above for each course. However, the prospectus and application form can be purchased against payment of cash at this Institute Office counter till the last date for receipt of filled-in application form. Candidates are advised to enclose a self-addressed A4-size (30x22 cm) cover stamped to a value of Rs.50/- to send the prospectus and application superscribing on the top of the cover the name of the course for which application is required.

Service Candidates in the Government Institutions / Hospitals who desire to apply for seats earmarked for sponsored candidates should also submit their applications through their present employer in the prescribed form supplied by JIPMER.
