Info for new-comers to JIPMER:

Chennai is 170 Km away. By bus it takes 3-4 hrs to reach Chennai. You can board a bus to Chennai from the bus-stop at the main gate. All buses from Chennai to Pondicherry via Tindivanam stop at JIPMER main entrance (Gate no.4) on request. Buses taking East Coast Road do not call at JIPMER. Pondicherry is not well connected by train.

City centre is 4-5 Km away. You can board a bus at the main gate(G-4) or take an auto from the autostand close to the main gate. Tempo services are also available. Central Bus-stand is 3-4 Km away.

Tea shops and other shops are situated just opposite to main gate. Two small restaurants and one A/C fast food shop are situated closeby.

Accommodation facilities in and around JIPMER are not good. Two private lodges are situated at the Tamilnadu-Pondicherry border which is five minutes walk from the main gate. Night stay facilities are available for poor patients and their relatives.

All gates except the main entrance are closed between 10 pm - 6 am. A security guard will be available at gate no. 7.

STD & PCO facilities are available within as well as outside the campus. Boarding and lodging facilities are almost nil inside the campus. If you are visiting JIPMER on an official duty, you can get accommodation at the JIPMER guest house subject to availability of rooms.

Internet & Email facilities are available at the kiosks run by private operators.
