  1. How many students are admitted?     

 JIPMER admits 100 students to each batch of MBBS course, yearly once.  They are available to eligible students as per the reservations under various categories, detailed below.

* For these categories, candidates need to apply directly to the Authorities concerned (vide Annexure II of

    MBBS admission prospectus) and not to JIPMER Administration. JIPMER does not entertain any queries or reply to any correspondence in this regard.

** OPH – 03 Seats are reserved on horizontal reservation basis.

*  There is no Quota for Non-Resident Indians (NRI) applicants for M.B.B.S. Admissions at JIPMER.

2. What is the procedure for admission?

JIPMER conducts entrance examination on all India basis and only merit in the Entrance Examination is the criterion for selection to 82 seats (including 26 reserved for locals). 

Government of India nominees are selected by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi according to set criterion.  Please refer to Annexure II of Prospectus for details.

  1. Who are eligible for admission?

Students who are Indian nationals, aged 17 years on or before 1st July and passed Higher Secondary Examination (+2) under 10+2+3 pattern with 50% marks in English and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together are eligible to appear in the Entrance Examination and try their merit.

  1. When is the next Entrance Examination?

 JIPMER Entrance Examination is usually conducted on the second Sunday of June every year.  The notification of entrance examination is published in all leading news papers and on the website in January/February every year.

  1. What is the syllabus for Entrance Examination?

 JIPMER does not prescribe any syllabus for our Entrance Examination.  However, it is based on CBSE syllabus for 11th and 12th standard students.

  1. What is the pattern of Entrance Examination?

The examination consists of 200 multiple choice questions, of one best response type with four alternatives, equally distributed among English, Botany, Zoology, Physics and Chemistry.  The evaluation is fully computerized and there is no negative marking.

  1. When will the application forms for the next Entrance Examination be available?

We shall be releasing the advertisements in all leading News Papers.  Soon after, the application forms and prospectus will be available on payment from JIPMER, Pondicherry. Please also watch our website for information (www.jipmer.edu).

  1. How do I reach Pondicherry?

Pondicherry is situated 160 Km south of Chennai on the East Coast of south India.  The easy mode of transport is public buses.  Buses very frequently ply between Chennai (Koyambedu Central Bus Stand) and Pondicherry and the journey time is 3 to 4 hours.  Train services are also available from Egmore station but they are infrequent.  Pondicherry is not connected by air.
