Info for new-comers to JIPMER

• Chennai is 170 km away. By bus it takes 3-4 hrs to reach Pondicherry. You can board a bus at Chennai from the bus-stop at Koyembedu (about 10 kilometers from the Chennai Central railway station). You can hire a Pre-Paid Auto from the Central station. 

• All buses from Chennai to Pondicherry via Tindivanam stop at JIPMER main entrance (Gate no.4) on request. Buses taking East Coast Road do not call at JIPMER but go directly to bus stand. However, it is easy to get to JIPMER from the town bus-stand by autorickshaw. 

• The bus-stand is 3-4 km away. Town buses are also available but infrequent and slow. 

• Pondicherry is NOT well connected by train.
  

• City centre is 4-5 km away. You can board a bus at the main gate(G-4) or take an auto from the auto stand close to the main gate. Tempo services are also available.

• Tea shops and other shops are situated just opposite to main gate. Two small restaurants and one A/C fast food shop are situated close by.
  

• Most of the lodges and hotels are situated in the town near the city center (Jawaharlal Nehru Street).
  

• All gates except the main entrance (gate no.4; see the map below) are closed between 10 pm - 6 am. A security guard will be available at gate no. 7.

• STD & PCO facilities are available within as well as outside the campus.
